This is a newborn, two-headed Florida Green Watersnake, that we removed from a gravid female who was struck by a car.
Every year the gravid watersnakes come onto the road edges at sunset to absorb extra heat for the babies they are growing. Unfortunately a lot of them get struck by vehicles and don’t survive.
This is where we come in and open them up, and remove the babies. This is a very time sensitive issue, you have to find them within a short timeframe or nothing will be alive. This snake had 20 babies inside, and one was this two-headed, we were able to save 17 of the 20 babies, but the two-headed one did not make it.
