My mom left when I was still a newborn.
But my dad, who was only 19, chose to stay.
My name is Joey, and I was born with Down syndrome.
He had no idea how to raise a child on his own, but he learned everything step by step.
We moved in with my grandparents so he could have some help while figuring things out.
He took me to every appointment, every therapy session.
He learned how to help me speak, read, and do things at my own pace.
While people his age were going out or starting their careers, he spent his days with me, practicing those small–big things that for us were victories.
Now I’m an adult, and we’re still incredibly close.
We cook together, laugh, listen to music.
And every day I wake up grateful that he stayed.
Grateful that he chose me.
Because without him, I wouldn’t be who I am.
🧡 Sometimes a young heart can be the biggest one of all.
Thank you, Dad.
