62-Year-Old Spanish Woman Welcomes Her Third Child

A 62-year-old woman from Spain has given birth to a healthy baby girl — her third child — inspiring women around the world to believe that motherhood can still be possible later in life.

Lina Álvarez, from Lugo, left Lucus Augusti Hospital on October 11, 2016, cradling her newborn daughter — also named Lina — and told reporters she felt “wonderful.”

The baby girl, delivered via cesarean section a day earlier, weighed 2.4 kilograms (5.3 pounds) and was reported to be in perfect health.

Álvarez’s eldest son, now 27, was born with cerebral palsy, while her two youngest children — her 10-year-old son and newborn daughter — were both conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

“I feel full of life,” Álvarez said shortly after the birth, adding that her story proves that “being a mother has no age limit when there is love and care.”
